Alex Mena has spent more than 32 years in journalism and has held multiple leadership roles throughout his career. He currently serves as Executive Editor of the Miami Herald and el Nuevo Herald and Senior Vice President of Local News for McClatchy Media, the Herald’s parent company. During his tenure, Alex has covered high school games, written features, worked as a designer and copy editor and held leadership positions including assistant sports editor, deputy sports editor, night operations chief, news editor, senior sports editor, deputy managing editor and managing editor. Alex is also deeply engaged in the community, having served as President of the South Florida Chapter of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and President of the Florida Society of News Editors. He currently serves on the Miami Herald Charities board and the Lee Caplin School of Journalism & Media Advisory Board, and is a 2024 Miami Dade College Hall of Fame inductee.
